Welcome to ProConvert for Windows!

This file includes important, updated information for users of ProConvert. The information is more current, in some cases, than that provided in the User Manual or online help file. Please read this information carefully.

Installation Notes

IMPORTANT!
If you are upgrading from an earlier version of ProConvert, we recommend removing it before installing this release.

Demo Version

The demo version of ProConvert will read any supported analyzer trace file and convert the first 25 frames. The purchased version removes this restriction.

Uninstallation Notes

To remove ProConvert, open the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel, select "WildPackets ProConvert 3.0" and click the "Change/Remove" button. All files created during the installation will be removed; however, you may need to manually delete the ProConvert folder to remove files created after installation.

User Manual

Please read the ProConvert User Manual for an overview of the features of ProConvert. This can be found in the WildPackets\ProConvert\ installation directory.

Technical Tips and Additional Product Information

  1. Recommended system requirements
The recommended operating systems for ProConvert are Windows 2000 and XP.
  2. Conversion from wireless to Ethernet
802.11 can have smaller and larger frames than 802.3. To avoid decode problems, ProConvert slices 802.11 frames down to 1518 bytes and sets the LLC length to 1500 bytes. Frames less than 64 bytes are padded with zeros to 64 bytes, so that they don't show up in Ethernet as runt packets.
  3. Support for Ethereal traces
Since Ethereal supports the libpcap format, save your Ethereal trace files with a *.dmp file extension and you will be able to use ProConvert to convert to EtherPeek or other supported analyzer formats.
  4. Packet Trace Timestamps
ProConvert makes a best effort to convert each packet's timestamp correctly. However, given the closed-source, proprietary nature of many vendors' timestamps, WildPackets cannot guarantee exact packet timestamp conversion.
